Apprentices galvanize their futures in the manufacturing sector

A specialist steel coatings company is celebrating after nine employees all successfully completed their apprenticeships with promising careers in galvanizing ahead of them.

Manchester Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, has praised its apprentices who have successfully gained their qualifications in Performing Manufacturing Operations Level 2 in Hot Dip Galvanizing – the first cohort of apprentices to complete the qualification across the entire Group.

The apprentices are Mark Cowsill, Paul Harding, Craig Harling, Liam Weatherhead, Juris Zvaigzne, Callum Ross, Daniel Bodie, Chucky Hull and Sam Robinson, who have each been studying for 12 months through a dedicated training provider.

Mike Davies of Manchester Galvanizing, explained: “We’re delighted for our nine apprentices who have successfully achieved the Level 2 qualification, and six of these candidates who are now progressing onto Level 3. The training curriculum provides students with a foundation knowledge of the entire galvanizing process and gives them unique insight into how to safely and efficiently process steel, which they can implement into their daily tasks.”

Hot dip galvanizing is a vital part of the construction, engineering, and manufacturing industries, and is used to protect steelwork from corrosion – offering a life-span of up to 60 years and longer, depending on the environment.

Robin Fry, Director of HR at Wedge Group Galvanizing, added: “Galvanizing is a hugely valued part of the manufacturing sector and we are committed to sharing knowledge and encouraging the next generation to enter our profession. Manchester Galvanizing has 15 more apprentices working on the Level 2 qualification and we are working with our other sites to provide similar training opportunities across the UK.”

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot-dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, the firm offers a truly national galvanizing service.
